Welcome, dear alumnae, to the virtual gateway of the Bryn Mawr College Class of 1974's 50th Reunion Celebration. As we gather to commemorate this significant milestone, we are reminded of the profound impact of our alma mater on our lives and the world around us.
Bryn Mawr College stands as a beacon of excellence in women's education, a pioneering institution that has long championed the intersection of liberal arts and the sciences. In an era where opportunities for women were often limited, Bryn Mawr boldly paved the way for academic advancement and intellectual empowerment. Reflecting on the challenges faced by women in the 1960s and 70s, we recognize parallels with the struggles still prevalent today. Yet, our experiences at Bryn Mawr equipped us with more than just knowledge; they instilled within us a resilience akin to the sunflower—ever reaching for the sun, steadfast in the face of adversity. |
The "Sunflower Symphony" tile, a radiant tribute crafted by classmate Verneda (“Rikki”) Lights, (based on a photograph taken by our esteemed classmate/ geologist, Rhea Graham), embodies this spirit of resilience and beauty. Each sunflower depicted symbolizes not only the stages of blooming but also the stages of our own growth and evolution since our time at Bryn Mawr.
Our Reunion team has been hard at work planning and fund-raising to help our alma mater continue in its tradition of academic excellence. (For Reunion details, click here.) We are thrilled to announce that this Reunion also features a silent auction of some of Rikki’s artworks. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Bryn Mawr Fund and the Black Alumnae Fund. Rikki's artist's talk, recorded on May 28th, will soon be available on this site. The first phase of auction bidding started at 9 pm ET/ 6 PM PT on Tuesday May 28th and ended on June 11th (9 PM ET). Winning bids from the first phase were notified via email on June 12th. The second phase of the auction starts on June 12th, and will end on June 18th, (9 PM ET). The second phase of the auction is for items that did not sell during the first phase. You will not be able to bid on items that are already sold. To visit the auction page, click here. Just as the sunflower turns towards the sun for sustenance, so too do we, as Bryn Mawr graduates, turn towards the skills and values instilled in us by our alma mater. With a commitment to lifelong learning and a dedication to excellence, we continue to thrive and make our mark on the world. |
